Ellie Jane Goulding born 30th December, 1986 in Hereford England. Her mother Tracey Goulding Summers worked in an ice cream shop and her father Arthur Goulding was a member of an undertaker's family. Goulding has three children: a sister Isabel whom is more senior, a brother Alex and another sister Jordan. Alex, her brother is a bass player as well as a Hereford Band member. She was encouraged by her mother to study music at the age of a small girl. When she was nine years old she began learning the clarinet. When she was 14 years old, Goulding began writing lyrics. She wasn't dedicated to writing songs until her college years. Goulding started to show an interest in electronics music while studying. Through MySpace she was able to connect with the record producer Frankmusik and with his assistance she came up with her own version of folktronica music. Her name was discovered during the time by Scout Jamie Lillywhite, who initially was her manager prior to becoming A.&R. in a college talent competition. Lillywhite then introduced her to producer Starsmith who assisted her to release her first single under the Sheets on November 15th, 2009. He then worked on Lights. Even though they released Under the Sheets through the independent label Neon Gold Records she was already signed to Polydor Records.
